We've heard from lots of parents that they're not quite sure about what the Mòd is, how it works, or why it's such a big event in the Gaelic calendar. Often families' first experience of the Mòd is when their child comes home from school with a song or a poem to learn for a competition, or when their friends' plans for the October holiday include a visit to wherever the National Mòd is hosted that year. But what's it all for, really? We thought that it might be a good idea to hold an informal event where we could share some of the history of the Mòd, talk about its place in Gaelic culture, and give you all a chance to find out 'everything you ever wanted to know about the Mòd but were afraid to ask'. So we've teamed up with our good friends at Camanachd Dhùn Èideann, Edinburgh's Youth Shinty Club, to put on an informal cheese and wine evening where we can get together to socialise, share information about the great opportunities available to kids through shinty and the Mòd, explain how it all works in practice, and talk about ways to support your kids to take part. We'll have a great collection of people there to share their knowledge and experiences - you can find more information in the invitation linked below, and we'll keep our Facebook page updated with the latest news. We'd love to have you join us - and we'd be especially grateful if you could let us know if you're coming, to help us plan the refreshments! Drop us an email at [email protected], or just click the button on our Facebook event page.
